The rust repair on the rockers and the lower rear quarters is pretty standard on a 510. Very common areas for water to no be able to drain out of. There were little rubber drains in both areas from the factory that soon became plugged, then it was all over.
The roof repair sure had a nice patch panel, someone spent some time on that. But this is an odd area for rust, water must have been gathering under the seal. This is common on the bottom of th gasket, but not so much on the top. Again nice repair.

This car had just some weird places that needed to be repaired. And obviously because it would take forever to post every photo and every story that goes with it, I'm just hitting highlights on here, but the overall metal work took probably 6 months to get done. The good news is that at the end we are able to keep another 68 2-door on the roadByron510 wrote:The rust repair on the rockers and the lower rear quarters is pretty standard on a 510. I did think of another 68 specific thing we had to do. The rear deck led had a ton of issues and I guess someone had tried to work on it previously and had made the metal so thin that it was unlikely that it wouldn't be wavy at the end of the day. So we bought another rear deck lid buuuttt, kind of forgot that we needed a 68 specific one since the Datsun logo is in a different place. Not to mention that what we got had a rotted out keyhole. But since the rest was good enough we just made the necessary changes.

Is that key hole patch tig or gas welded?

I wasn't the one who did it, so to be 100% honest I'm not entirely sure.Byron510 wrote:Is that key hole patch tig or gas welded?

I kind of touched on this earlier, but I really anguished over what to do with the paint color for quite some time. In fact, I had settled on a different paint color and maybe a few hours before they ordered the paint I called and told them I was going a completely different direction. So after yelling "omaha" on the phone, the new paint was ordered and when it arrived the engine bay was the first area to get painted.
