dead in the water

Post by RMS »

it will shortly be visiting ailed salvage before taking a trip across the pacific were it will be reborn. had a 5 spd in by tuseday

for the first time ever I was not able to limp a 510 home. coming back from the wack I pulled off the hwy to recycle some coffee and a few miles down the road the she started to sputter then nothing, bumped it, choked it.....nothing. flasher on I rolled into some shade by the ditch. hood up, cap off everything good..... look under the cleaner and the bowl was empty. with a full tank and filter I attacked the pump with the only wrench in the car. pull the body and the arm bounces off the battery then the alt and finally came to rest in the dirt.... by the time I walk to the parts store..... ya thats right. it was closed, and the next... Call in reinforcement and 20 min later their on seen, electric pump in hand. they had to run to catch a boat and by the time it was plumed and wired it was getting dark. connected the ground then touched the + and nothing. called in the reserves and left the datsun in a cloud of diesel as we rolled away on 53s.

I’ll assume it was just the transmission that hit the scrap pile :-)

So Robyn, in the end what did you figure out?

Hey Robyn, sorry to hear of your dilemma. You should’ve called me,I have an old fuel pump that probably would have worked for you. And I have wrenches!

I had thought of calling you or Byron but it was 9:30pm and she died on the no10 @ 192 right on the sur/lang border. I was quite surprised when I rolled up on sunday morning to find all my change still on the floor, ash tray in and glove box closed. new used pump was installed in minutes and I was back on the road.

punched

Post by RMS »

yesterday I was sitting at a level crossing watching the graffiti roll by, the last car passed, the arms came up and bang!
a f150 tried to mount my wagon.
the "front hole" claimed it was because of his start stop system (foot off brake, engine starts, torque converter spins and away you go)
I have never operated a vehicle with such voodoo. is it a balancing act of just letting of the brake to engage the starter but not so much that the torque converter over powers the brake ?

Damn!

How much damage did you do to the driver of the F150?

How bad was the damage to the wagon?

Pretty much most new vehicles do this, but you have to really be asleep at the switch to do what this guy did. I rent cars all the time with all the grannies, they do assist normal drivers. But if your and idiot - there just no fix!

now, now we live in a civilized society ......

the damage is hard to say.... looks like the passenger side of the bumper was moved in about an inch, the driver side lic light is dented, the hatch is bent and no longer seals and it looks like the passenger side rear door gap has closed up by 3mm. with the roof rack in place it is hard to say if the roof is bent.

thats what i thought but what a stupid system..... what are the roads going to be like when these vehicles are 15 or 20 years old ? stalled city ?

the adjuster spent almost 2h looking over the car..... the prognoses does not look good. they are talking write off as they believe it needs a pull. now the fight begins determining value.

Maybe you could talk to Tyson, strike a price with ICBC and make up the diff with Tyson...IF...you value the wagon to be kept.

I dealt directly with Tyson with my G35, worked out well.
