TA 71B #2 Tranny

Post by deano510 » 29 Jun 2020 12:55

I have a couple of the above, and I'm looking for rebuild kits for them. One of them jumps out of 5th gear when not under power or compression.
The other one needs the synchros replaced.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I bought one from Transmission Exchange in Portland 3 or 4 years ago. http://txchange.com/

It was a kit with bearings, seals, and syncros.

I just looked at their web site, and applications didn’t go further back than 1990. Did you call in your order?
It’d be good to know that parts are still a available.

Don't know if this site has what your looking for. I've been meaning to pick up this kit for my zx 5 sp. Any input on weather it's Corri would be helpful.

I've used Nachi bearings they're ok and from Japan. I don't know why these kits say 71C as they were first used in the 300zx non turbo in '84 and then not until '86.5 in the S12 and D21 Hardbody. The 56mm counter bearing won't fit them.

We buy the rebuild kits from cobratransmission.com. All of their Nissan (not listed under Datsun) 5speed kits are ultimately the same, for that series trans that was used in the 1977 280Z thru the 1983 280ZX. The kits have qty 5 brass synchro rings, but the earlier 1977-1980'ish 5speed with the .864 5th ratio (double ears at rear of tail housing) uses a phenolic (??) 5th synchro that is long NLA NLS. This synchro is abidextrous & can be FLIPPED to the other side that is not normally used! The kits also do NOT have a small lip seal & oring for the upper shift shaft. Under heavy use ie racing, those upper seals can leak & splatter trans fluid out of the shift lever hole! Riley at Lynchburg Nissan 800-443-2117 has these seals. Hope that helps!
