It's pretty easy to measure, even with a ruler. It is going to be some sort of semi standard metric size, so find the diameter to the closest mm and then count how many threads there are in 10mm of length, and then divide 10 by that number to get the mm per thread(which will likely be a multiple of 1/4s of a mm). You'll come up with something like this:

Measure 18mm diameter,

count 8 threads in 10mm,

10/8 = 1.25

thread is M18x1.25

this is just an example, not the answer you are looking for.

Derek,
The funny thing is that I think you were really close. I believe it's an M20 X 1.5 thread, but we'll wait for goichi's confirmation on that :D

I did the same exact thing on my car when I was pulling the drum backing plates off. I thought I had screwed the pooch for sure, I couldn't get the nut to start threading on at all - probably because I had used a BIG hammer instead of a press to remove the stub axles (oops!). I took it to a local machine shop and they recommended I use a thread file. Sure enough it worked great and only took a few minutes, I'm embarassed to say that my thread file is one of my favorite tools (I make a lot of mistakes) LOL.

Give the thread file a try if you like, they're cheap and it worked great for me.
