Post by datzenmike »

Are these L16 or L24 pistons? Or are they something else?

I'd have to dig out a shortblock to verify, but I don't think the OEM L16 or Z-car pistons had valve notches in the crown.......?? Could those be later NAPZ?

Factory pistons didn't. No guarantee some aftermarket maker didn't decide reliefs were fancy!

TJ hey! It's what I heard too but have seen several examples of this. Last L16 I tore down was in the 70s and like they say if you remember anything of the 70s you were doing it wrong. True the Z series all have notches but 4 on every one and this isn't one of them. Julian you are probably right it's a common stock after market one

Those are 73 L16 pistons. The 73 head had a larger combustion chamber so the dish on the 73 pistons was smaller. The 73 Z pistons were flat tops with valve reliefs like these. I'm interested in the 73 head if you have it for an experiment. Thanks
