CA18DET into 510

Post by jaredperry »

Hello,

I am in the process of installing a CA18DET into my 510. I am getting mixed interpretations as to what needs to be done for the drive shaft. I know that I undoubtedly will have to shorten, but can I use the 510 shaft? It doesn't appear that it will fit, so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone has a CA18DET to 510 compatible drive shaft for sale that would be awesome! or... a U joint to CV conversion that would be great too.

Thanks all,

If you have a 71c 5 speed trans with the CA and a manual 510 driveshaft, you need to chop off all but about 3/4" of the dust shield on the yoke of the driveshaft. This will allow it to fit into the trans all the way. Then fit it and measure a few times before getting it shortened and balanced.

Make sure you get the tail end of the trans high enough so you can get good driveline alignment.

Thank you very much for the information.

Just had a local place in Ventura shorten the drive shaft, replace the U Joints and balance. Total was about $175.00
