Has anyone experienced problems with master link based timing chains in L4 engines running higher RPM and longer duration cams? I just cleaned all the cosmoline off the replacement I was going to use and discovered it has a master link, which scares me given master link failures I've seen in other things...
There are a couple very cheap Melling chains on eBay that are supposedly Japanese made (this one I have is German), and I have yet to see a genuine Japanese L-series timing chain with a master link. There are also Cloyes which are supposedly US made? Does anyone know if they have a master link?
I keep imagining that BS link going *bink* followed by catastrophic failure...

The cloyes I have purchased recently (last 6 years?) don't have a master link, but paint on two links......
Finished is better than perfect......

Just an update for anyone interested: I ordered a Beck/Arnley timing chain online that was shipped to me directly from Beck/Arnley, and it is in fact Japanese, and does not have a "please destroy my engine" master link. So current distribution Beck/Arnley timing chains are good stuff.
