H190 end play help,

Okay, dumb question time, and if ANYONE can help me out on this I'm very grateful...but on the H190 rear ends, isn't the axle end play set using shims at the outer bearings? And the "thrust block" in the center of the stock open differentials basically redundant? There is no thrust block in the factory H190 LSD units.

Yes shims are used between the axle tube and the backing plate. I think that thrust blocks are in later 80s? H-190s (could be wrong) I can check when I get home

Mike, thanks for confirming for me. I really do appreciate it. Was pretty sure that's how they are from memory..especially since they're not fully floating axles (at least not in the roadsters/510s/200SXs). It was called into question last night as someone I sold an H190 LSD unit to kept telling me the shop setting up his rear end was insisting there was supposed to be a "spacer block" (thrust block) to set axle end play. I think they're a general rear end shop used to floating set ups.
Thanks again, Mike.

The 520/521/620 and 720 had the thrust block and all had 29 spline* side gears.

Roadster, 510, 810. Maxima, S110 200sx* and first year '84 S12 200sx* all used an H-190 but did not have this thrust block. All in this list has 23 spline except those marked * which were 29.

I can only assume the two side gears pushed against the pinion shaft running through the center?
