Valve Spring Installed height micrometer

Post by Byron510 »

Hi Realm members,

Is there a brand of installed height micrometer that you have used, one that will clear inside an L series head to give a good accurate valve installed height measurement? There are literally dozens out there, it of course the primary market is N/A V8 applications which have loads of room around the valves, unlike our L-Series heads.

Let me know your thoughts on the brand of tool that you’ve used - any input would be great, thanks.

Has no one ever measured the installed height of a valve or valve spring in a Datsun L head?

If you remember the tool you used, I could use some guidance on a purchase.

Thanks guys.

Byron, When I built my LZ22 waaay back when, the shop refurbishing my head did all the valve and valve spring height adjustments. Would it be possible if you have setup springs you could use vernier calipers with a .001" incrament dial indicator on it?

Byron, i have tried to find a reasonable tool as well. i was not successful... i ended up using small dia valve clearance check springs and snap gauges.

hope this helps
