R200 stubs recommendations

Post by dat5102dr »

I have a R200, zcargarage axles and Mario TSR modified IRS
Any recommendations on a couple of Stubs? with the thought of rebuilding the diff later in the years while running a 300hp+ sr20det?

29 spline to 4 bolt stubs? I should have some.

Looks like you’ve got the rare LSD?

Hold one axle spline somehow and turn the driveshaft yoke. If it turns it's an open diff. If you can't turn it or it forces the held spline to turn together with the other side then LSD. Could be clutch or viscous.

The late '87 Z31 300zx turbo had clutch LSD and viscous LSD after. Perhaps they over lapped. The '90 and up Z32 were stubby. The S12 didn't have an LSD option, S13 240sx were viscous LSD and S14 viscous and stubby.

Late ‘87+ Z31T had LSDs. Only ‘88 Shiro special Z31T (white) had vLSDs. Both had the big finned cover.
to clarify, the s13,s14, and z32 are all short nosed diffs which are no good for a 510.

My buddy has run many 10 second passes on 29 spline axles in an S13 so I would not worry at all about using Nissan OEM output shafts on an SR 510.

I’ll have to dig up the output shafts and respond to your PM.

I can't comment directly on your axle adapters, but I believe all "short nose" R200s came with the stub axle you're looking for.

I went a different route, as these adapters didn't exist when I started my project. I just welded in some Z31 bearing hubs to use bolt in axles, disk brakes, and 5-lug hubs. The Z31 R200 I have uses stock Z31 CV joints and the Pathfinder axles. I've swapped in a Tomei 1.5 way LSD from the later short nose units. It's a direct bolt in using the long nose ring and pinion gears. The downside to all of this is that the R200 LSD was never meant for a narrow lightweight car like this. It clunks quite a bit on tight turns, especially when it's cold. I even swapped a clutch disk to reduce breakaway torque, but it's still tight. It does work well to give grip. I'll be looking for more grip soon with flares and 245 width tires.
