McMaster Carr shows two types of duplex 3/8" roller chains: ANSI spec with 0.200" roller sleeves, and ISO 606B with 6.35" (1/4") roller sleeves.

Mercedes master links will fit the Nissan chain...



L20B chain needed 4 links to fit on a Z24. Yeah the cam is rusty because this is just a mock up head.

Yes, the old 1970s Mercedes 450SE (and other products) uses a great long 3/8" double roller chain. My guess is that "Jaguar" chain will likely work as well.

Engineers are fundamentally 'lazy' (efficient), and will always use something pre-existing rather than spend all day unnecessarily reinventing wheels. Timing chains are one such part that is pre-existing...

I've just been through this exercise, here's what I found.

Riley at Lynchburg seems like he has his head above water again and got back to me really quickly. He sold me a Nismo adjustable cam sprocket and Japanese TRW chain. He also pointed me to Nissan OE crank sprockets from these guys: https://partsouq.com/en/search/search?q ... 8000&qty=1 . Crank sprocket was $32 including freight to get it shipped here from Dubai, not sure how they can do it and only took 5 days!

He has OSK stuff. Expensive to get it here.

Engineers have never gotten things right the first time. All engineering is based on previous engineering, all engineering advancement is learned from disaster analysis.

I have a new timing chain kit that someone gave me 20 years ago that I'd be happy to send you. It's of unknown origin as I received it in a box with a hand written "L20B" on it. It's the chain, two sprockets, and guides for free if you want it.
