KA24de Oil Pan Gasket w/ Reversed Crossmember
KA24de Oil Pan Gasket w/ Reversed Crossmember
I need to replace my oil pan gasket and was wondering if I need to remove crossmember to do so. Thanks.

Depends on your installation.
Likely, yes, you will.

Nope, you won't.arkitekz wrote:Aww crap, now i need a engine hoist
Place the car up on two jack stands at the front, then support the motor on a 3rd jack stand – obviously not on the oil pan, then continue with the X member removal. You may want to undo as many oil pan bolts as you can before supporting the motor, since the 3rd jack stand may get in the way (I’ve only done this with L-series engines, but I can’t see the KA as being much different of an animal). I've done this more times than I've wanted to - but it works just fine, and is safe.
A hoist is nice to support the motor, but then you access under the car is severely limited. Last time I did this I had an overhead crane - that was awesome, but likely not available to you!
Good luck with it.

Thanks Byron.

Got it off without taking off crossmember. I did have to jack up the motor a couple of inches though. Lets hope this MFer doesnt leak anymore. Thansk for the help guys.
