I’m curious if a VG 30 motor will couple to a 1971 510 auto trani?
If so has anyone done this?

Not in any of the 11 string theory universes. In short, the 510 uses an L series engine/transmission and the VG30E , well it's a VG series engine that uses a VG transmission.
You would need the VG30 auto transmission from a '84- 300zx, '86- D21 Hardbody, (2wd) '87- S12 All are 4 speed automatics that are long and large. Drive shaft would definitely need shortening.
