Who makes the best carpet kits?

Post by paul97 » 23 Jul 2020 03:05

I want to get a carpet kit for my 68 510 2 door and I was wondering who makes the best carpet kits these days.

I don’t know if it’s the best but I purchased a kit from Stock Interiors that I am happy with:

I wanted carpet which looked like stock and they sell the 80-20 loop which is a very close match. I don’t know if they actually make the kit or just distribute it. The two issues I had was cutting and finishing the shifter hole and the piece under the rear seat isn’t sewn on the edges.

I have the istockinteriors carpet kit as well, but I don't like it and think it's cheap. It may be like the original and is in multiple pieces, but I've seen much nicer carpet in other members' rides that if I was to do it again I'd go another route.

I installed the Newark Auto Product kit and I would definitely recommend it to others. Purchased on eBay from seller Benher58, it was only $135, it fit great, quality materials, and had padding pre-glued to the back. A few pics:

Looks great Tedman! That carpet kit looks and sounds suspiciously like the Stock Interiors one but cost less. At least they have the same advertising photo. Looks like they are still available on eBay too.

My pictures aren’t as helpful since I covered up most the carpet.

The problem is that my car doesn't have the front seat support brace in it. The seats are bolted directly to the floor so if I bought that kit I would have a gap where the brace was.

Nobody will make a carpet kit other than OEM style, except an upholstery shop. All of the floor carpet can be cut & fit from a flat roll of carpet. The trans tunnel is the tricky part, but I think it too can be cut from a flat roll. I think the OEM carpet WAS a flat piece & overlapped itself to create the tapered tunnel. There are some companies offering a "moulded set" for the 510, but I have never seen one. If you cut to fit, then maybe take to an upholstery shop to have the edges bound..........??
