IR Alternator wiring confirmation needed

Post by DADZSUN » 22 Jun 2015 05:06

This weekend I peeled back quite a bit of the engine bay's wiring tape and noticed that the alternator's output 'A' was:
  • flowing back to the starter/battery connection
  • flowing back towards the fuse box (large white wire)
  • flowing back to the alternator's main connector, specifically lead 'N'
I was curious about that last point, so when I reference the wiring diagram it does show that leads 'A' and 'N' do in fact join.

So I cleaned things up and simply shortened/rerouted 'N' straight back to 'A'.

My question is am I missing anything? Why would 'N' exist if it's just rerouted into 'A'?

N is the sense wire (hence the S* on the diagram), so it needs to sense 12V+. My engine swaps have that wire bolted to A just as you've done.
