VDO fuel gauge that is compatible with stock sender

Post by duke »

Just wanted to pass along this info. Maybe somebody will find it helpful.

I looked for a long time for an aftermarket fuel gauge that works with the stock sender. Well, I finally found one. VDO PN 301-107 reads 90 ohms empty and 0 ohms full. The stock 510 sender is ~90 ohms empty and ~10 ohms full. Close enough for me. Another plus was that it matches the other VDO gauges that I have in my car.

Let us know as soon as you can, if it works ok and hookup simple.

Is this the one? It says for tube type sensor?

Yes, that is the one.

I've had it in my car for the last week or so and it seems to be working great. I haven't filled the tank to the brim so I can't say how accurate it is on the full side, but empty is pretty spot, as well as the other graduations on the gauge (4 gallons in an absolutely empty tank yielded just over 1/4 tank on the gauge). Hookup is easy, just 3 wires (ground, +12, and stock signal wire from the tank) and the light.

Thanks for that. I am going to order one of those and find a place to mount the gauge. Anything will be better than what my factory unit is doing and it would be a MAJOR dismantle to get my gauge cluster out.
