Mallory dual point distributor

Post by farmer_fred »

A friend gave me a Mallory dual point distributor and I wonder what it's designed for. It def fits L-series 4-cyl but appears to have no vacuum or mechanical advance?

Any info would be appreciated.

TIA

Those things usually have interchangeable springs underneath the plate under the rotor to adjust the advance, no?

I'm not sure about the interchangeable springs, but mine adjusts the timing with the inside plate. Mine is not a dual point though. I contacted Mallory a few years back and they noted there is a kit available to go to optical points. Mine is wired through an MSD box.

I double checked and with a couple shots of 6 in 1, the mechanical advance freed up. So there is a mechanical advance (springs and bob weights) under the points plate.
