1968 datsun 510 wagon heater schematic

Post by 68 Wagon »

Hey folks,

Need some help with a schematic or pictures of the 68 heater assembly in that mine is leaking a ton of air somewhere behind the ashtray as I go down the road. We all know what a pita tearing the dash apart is, so was hoping somebody has some experience with this bugaboo and can help so I do not have to tear the world apart to fix it!!

After I got the car, which, by the way, is my daily driver (68 Wagon) I did take apart the heater controls and painstakingly fix all of the cams, cables, etc. that it controls....so I am puzzled as to why it is still doing this leaking...? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott

So you say the heated air is going out of the unit under the dash instead of down to the floor or up into the defrost ducts?

No....I am getting cold air from somewhere above the heater body behind and above the ashtray. I get heated air thru the defrost ducts and thru the cabin ducts when selecting those.

I have a 71 heater assembly and looked at it and it is quite different than the 68.

A 70s heater box and diverter will fit in a 68 with mods to the control rod and cables. from what you say it sounds like the foam seal between the cowl and diverter box is gone. if you hold your mouth just the right way the diverter box can be re&re'ed without pulling the dash, however it may require you to stand on your head.
