Quarter Window Latch

Post by Colbino » 06 Jun 2019 09:29

Hey Guys,

I just installed my quarter window latches in what I appear to be the correct manor. However, when the window is fully closed and the latch is locked down it does not want to "lay" fully down and "snug" up against the bracket. I've never seen a picture of a new bracket in the closed position, so I can only assume that when it is closed that is should be all the way down. Can anyone confirm? And/or post of pic. of their setup in the closed position?

Thank you-

I installed new latches last year and has the same problem. One side went with a fair bit of effort. I was pretty nervous. Took the second apart to see where I might have went wrong. Found nothing and then pushed way harder than I liked and it snapped shut. Looked at my son, his car, and said never open the windows. Even back in the day I never lokedy opening them as they would flop around. Don't kmow it this helps as you must not be as comfortable with the amount of effort. And this was with reusing the old window seals.

Thanks for the info., Mike. That does help. You're right, the amount of pressure that the latch is demanding does not seem appreciate for the task. Maybe I'll just leave them open and only drive on warm days. 😁

Those 1/4 windows are heavy for the shit hindges it pivots on and if the latch side of the windown sags downwards it makes it difficult latching them. I elongated the mount to raise the window making it a bit easier to latch down.

It looks to me like you have the mounting plate of the latch attached to the outside of the body mount. I have mine attached on the inside and never have had any issues with them. I use mine every day when its warm out.

Initially I mounted it to the inside and the latch wouldn't close down fully. This led me to the parts diagram that looks like the latch plate was supposed to be on the outside of the bracket with the screws mounted inward. I made the change and it didn't effect anything.

Does everyone mount the latch to the inside with the screws going outward? Maybe that is part of my problem.

Awesome. Thanks, Bert!

Let me go flip mine around and give it another try. The latch does look to sit up a bit even in the closed position.
