510 Owner from Canberra, Australia.

Post by Woznaldo »

Hi Everyone,

I’ve used this forum as a great Datsun resource and would love to continue to do so. Maybe even some of my own insights into 510 ownership!

I’ve had my 510 (1600 in Australia) for two years now and just love the old skool feel of the car. I also love the way the car handles, especially given its age! I’m from the UK originally where 510s were overshadowed by Mk1 & 2 Ford Escorts (great cars too). That said, my Dad ran a 120Y for a while when I was a kid and I remember it fondly.

I’m not so much about big power, but I do need some ‘get up and go!’ My priority in cars has always been about corners, so that’s where my attention will be directed for the most part.

I’ve got some uprated springs and 240K struts and front brakes, the steering box has more play than a sausage in a clown’s pocket! The L18 engine has a mild cam and twin 40 DCOE Webers with a set of extractors and a 2” exhaust. The 240K also gave up its 5 Speed gearbox!

Hopefully I’ll be able to throw up some suspension questions soon as I have a few to ask!

Thanks Guys,

I just had a look at the steering adjustment thread and I’ve already gone through that twice. I’m in the dead box Category!

I’ll get a pic up when I’m at my computer and can compress the picture to a reasonable size!
