Heim Rod ends

Post by caesarDX »

Hey guys... Hope everyone is having a great year.

Need some help. Where can I buy heim rod ends in the lower mainland?
Perferably the Vancouver Area.

This is for the R5 Turbo 2. I have been taking some of the components apart
and replacing the intercooler hoses, oil cooler hoses, Fuel lines and also relocating
the oil filter to a spot that is more easily accessible. During this process I noticed
the heim rod ends were damaged and need to be replaced.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Caesardx

Mopac in Langley is likely the cheapest locally.
Lordco etc will just order from them.

Price wise, the interwebs will be cheapest.

Order online at McMaster-Carr is a good choice, also Midwest Control Products. Or just leave it as-is, and sell the car to me, I'll fix the suspension problems.

Leonard, Try BC Bearing Engineers, or Raeside Equipment.

Also, be aware that there are many different grades and styles of heim joints/spherical bushings. Best to take your existing ones in and get them to get exact replacements (unless you can find some Renault Sport documents that show the type used by and spec'd by the factory.)

Thanks Rob. I have attached some pics showing their use. They actually just help hold the turbo assembly and probably
keeps everything tight. It seems that the whole turbo assembly, exhaust and header are held together by a few key points.

It doesn't look like it's under any excessive amount of stress, more heat than anything else. I will check out the suggested
companies. As for the intercooler. After speaking to a R5 turbo fanatic in hawaii, he put in a huge modified intercooler,
larger injectors and also wrapped the headers and managed to push out over 250 hp. I recalled in stock format the last
and only dyno pull that we had done at Rocket Rallly Racing with the 510 Gang, the HP was around 163hp at the wheels.

I remember that day.. I collected $90 from everyone. :)

Thanks for the help and interest. I hope to get this all put together soon.

Oh man I love those cars. How did you come across it? Have a build thread or something I could peruse while I'm supposed to be working?

Get back to work. Purchased it in 2007. Imported into Canada from Seattle. It was a Sun international
gray market car. Always wanted one and took the plunge to the dark side of uncertainty with parts
and know how. It has been very fun. With the internet and support from the R5 community and all my
buds in the 510 community it has been "fairly" easy.

It's a car that constantly puts you in "Chase" mode.

Thanks for the update and photos, good to see you around.

Another source for hiem joints locally is Kaman - they also have a few locations. I recently got rid of a lot of catalogs as everything is available in electronic form these days. Are those units you are looking for metric? If so, write of Lordco and Mopac - neither can think metric and quality at both are often suspect...just my thoughts and experiences.

Kaman and Raeside are my favorites for any bearing matters - this is what they deal in, and deal well. Cheap they won't be - you'll likely find what you need online cheaper, but the knowledge is there and often worth paying for.

I always liked the intercooler /manifold idea. When you are pressed for space, you think outside the box - and the French clearly did with many aspects of this very cool car... ahhh Group B ......

Thank Byron.

I remember the Bronze having a few of these set up in the engine compartment.
I can't remember what for though? That's why I thought I would ask you guys.
Hope the family is doing well. Will probably miss the fall show again.

Yes, there are one or two in the Bronze.

Don't worry about missing the All Nissan Meet - it was two weeks ago! How time flies, I know. It's been a August even for the last few years, and will likely stay there as timing and weather seems to work out better for most.

Family is doing well - growing - man they grow fast!

But hey, we WILL do an Oktoerfast drive - come hell or high water. We'll keep you posted. I saw a corner of the 510 in the R5 - it's been a very long time...

Hear from you soon.
