What can one say.......

I used to love talking to Art, and talk he did, with such enthusiasm...

He always greeted me by saying how is Mr.Vorgon.....

One of my fondest memories was when we entered the B.C.Place car show together, his absolute stocker, and my totally modified monster.....was a real crowd draw and conversation maker, Art was just tickled to have that extreme of the same car displayed together.

We will see you Art......out there on the Great Rolling Dyno....

On to bigger and better places Mr. Hughes. It was an absolute pleasure and privilidge to have met such a great person. My wife and I met him at Canby a few years ago, his first words to us were in Japanese, my wife talked to him for a while as she is from Japan, you could tell he really enjoyed that conversation in Japanese. We all stayed at the same hotel the two days so we ran into him again there. He was truly a nice person and I am sure the world will miss him. Thank you Mr. Hughes for your service to life and humanity around the world, you made it a better place!!

Just an update for you all.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Art on Jan 18th at 2pm (originally printed in the Globe and Mail in error at 10 am), the address is below and I updated the first post on this thread.

Unitarian Church of Vancouver
949 49 Ave W, Vancouver, BC

I know we will be doing something special for Art, and I don't mind being the primary contact for this. I will post details as they are made, but certainly it will involve our 510's some how. I talked to his church, and have left my name with them. Gordon B. has also talked with the minister directly. But we will get something together for Art, even if we simply attend 'enmass with our 510's. I'll certainly keep you updated.

I went looking for my picture in the Vorgon Archives, of Art and I at the B.C. Place car show, in 1997 spring.

Found it buried in one of my albums, unfortunately not with Art in it.

At the height of my racing, as I changed things, I would send Art a small package of factory parts, to keep his stocker alive, we used to kid each other about the "mystery" parts that would arrive.

Seeing the above picture of Art's car with all the plaques, I sure in the hell hope that the new owner doesn't mess with it, just maintains it like Art did.

I finally came across this shot of Art that I took at Canby a few years ago-- I remember being so impressed that he was going the extra distance to get the right photograph of this beautiful FJ powered 510-- not many men of his age would dare to do the same thing:

Art was a great character, and it was always great to talk with him at Shasta the PNW shows. I will certainly miss seeing him around... :(

Rest in peace...

It's next Friday, January 18.

I'm taking a 510, the Bronze if it's nicer, but old blue for sure.
