My brother ended up with no less than 7 resident bears living virtually in his yard this year, has become a bit of a concern. They have thrown his barbecue off the porch again. He has actively been trying to scare the hell out of them, but to no avail. The bear population is the highest it has been in many, many years.

I bet your Brother is a bit concerned if they are on his porch.( hope they are not too comfortable there)
The bear population is very high for sure on the Island this year.

yes, very concerned! They have stood up on the glass porch sliding doors, and, his wife accidently left a bag of garbage in her Explorer, and the bears stood up on the side of the vehicle, and scratched the hell out if it. ICBC did cover it thought. Lately, he has put a spent .357 magnum shell casing on the end of one of his target arrows, duct taped it on, and then with his compound bow, winged a shot at the bears side. This has got them moving, and, he is thinking this negative reinforcement to NOT be in this area, might help.

Wow!! Standing up looking in is not a good thing for sure.
I would keep the 357 close at hand there ,Wonder why the spent casing deters them?
Good that the cooperation covered the Explorer.

The FORCE that the arrow must hit them with must be incredible, from that compound bow. The shell casing is just to make a blunt end so that it does not penetrate them. It has to hurt like hell.

What has really pissed my brother off about, is that a couple of the neighbours have put their garbage out the night before collection. This has gotten the bears used to the food, so, a bear is doomed once it becomes a garbage bear. Look at the problem whistler has now, they are so used to the availability of easy food........ Oh, well, nature will cycle through like it always does.
