88 Subaru Electric locking Diff?

Post by 510ER »

Found a subaru LSD its in an 88 turbo wagon. there is a sticker on the back that says 3.7 LSD just like it is supposed to. The wierd thing is that inside the car there is a switch that says "DIFF LOCK" and there is lots of electrical mumbo jumbo going on around the rear end...
Any ideas?

Guessing it's for the center diff or front diff, not the rear.

Maybe it just removes the 60/40 bias to the front on AWD and locks the front to the back. Maybe it has nothing to do with LSD.

If the LSD was electric there would be wires....

there are wires but with it in the car you cant tell where they go. could be factory or could be joe the mechanic from 20 years ago

Yep. Subaru's of that vintage ran in FWD until you pulled the lever to engage the AWD. That's why most of the Subaru clutch-pack LSDs are in such great shape - few were ever used, and most that were used were only engaged for a small amount of the car's actual mileage.
