It has to come apart. The lip of the dash bolts through the dash frame.

Hi

Here are some photos inside a spare dash I have.

I don't see the pad coming off this superstructure it seems to have been molded together.

I have more pictures if you need them

this is an unrestored '68 dash

Can you take pictures of the inside of the dash structure along the top-front (along the top-inside of the gauge panel, for instance)?

Awesome. Shows some of the nuts you'll have to remove to pull the pad off. Lots more than just the two on each side. Welcome to early-dash ownership. '69s are similar. Late/plastic dashes are much more modular.

I have been looking this dash over, it may come apart, but I think the entire dashboard structure has to come out of the car.

The main steel frame that goes up under the "vent grill" at the windshield is molded into the pad and is wrapped around, take this end of the dash as a case in point, three views:

dash inside end.jpg
dash inside 2.jpg
All in one piece on the outside that wraps all around 3D, BUT is bolted to the main frame. The caveat is you seem to have to remove the whole frame from the car to get it off

I just put one in my 620 without taking it out. (looks a lot better BTW)

Just use lots of bracing to squeeze the edges down all over evenly. I had dowels and sticks going in all directions because that one has pieces that come down the front of dash, I don't think yours would be that hard.
