Another 84 Datsun/Nissan 720 4x4 project
Thought I would post another one of my projects.
Recently brought this truck home, was sitting for about 10 years.
A couple of kids stole it and took it for a 'joyride'....been parked ever since.
Replaced the windshield and cowl, hood, bumper, gas tank, fuel pump (blew out the lines), ignition switch, steering column cover, pulled the stock Hitachi and replaced with a 32/36. 'Fitted' the stock air cleaner over the Weber. Replaced bench seat with single bucket...for now. Installed clock in cluster. Installed Datsun radio. Replaced rotted kicks with stock plastic ones. Painted floors....not that they needed it
Good thing I have about 5+ trucks to pull parts from....
To do list:
3" body lift, pressure wash, a little body work, repaint, bumpers and bush guard included.
Lose and or paint canopy.
Is in amazingly good shape...(stock paint).....very little (insignificant) rust.

The only thing nicer for that truck would for it to be a King Cab Doug. Nice all the same though!

You are correct on the KC....which I'm rather patial 2.
But, the price was...very good.
I have quit a few KCs....so this will be somewhat.....yes....smaller
Although.....it does only has a drivers seat for now.
A little more space for personal quality time, tools, winch and or etc.
All Datsun drivers should be somewhat equipped for the latent 'kaos' factor.

I like this truck... its so... 1984!
It's funny how the 1970's Datsun trucks are retro cool, then the first real toyota 4x4 is a classic now, then the D21 Hardbody was next, then the first Tacoma... Its like Nissan and Toyota played coolness leapfrog.
... and more importantly, there is no such thing as a retro Ford Ranger or Chevy S10 as they were one POS after another... and the Dodges were Mitsus.. and still not good.

I had 2 of these trucks - and 83 4X4 standard cab, regular box, then an 84 with KC, reg box. Liked them both - but they were no rockets!
You had to plan your merge onto the freeway well in advance, speeding up wasn't an option, only lifting to match the speed of traffic was your way in!
Had a really good scare in the 83 truck on the downhill side of Larson Hill on the Coquihalla Pass one winter - it started a slow pendulum effect on a suddenly ice stretch, steering into the slide wasn't making it stop. As the pendulums started to grow in intensity and I started using up more road I'll admit that was over the line and the heart started pumping. After about 10 cycles of this I knew I was approaching the point of no return – using up two of the three lanes on the road by this time. I was already doing 120 Kph, and those snow banks didn't look very inviting. Educated enough to know that lifting off the throttle would certainly end in disaster, and a constant speed with steering correction was not working; in an act of desperation I got on the gas and throttled it to the bottom of the hill….
I've had my share of racing "moments" over the years, but I have to admit that one was scary!
Otherwise, good times were had in the bush with both trucks.

Awesome!!! Makes me wish I didn't just sell my 86 Sold it two weeks ago to buy an engagement ring. But she said yes so all is well.

Great looking truck.
It reminds me a little of my '87 S10 I bought as my first truck, but definitely much cooler as its a Nissan 4 wheel drive.

I gotta say, I love everything about this truck, except the canopy, but thats me. I especially like the graphics and the fact that its a regular cab. My dad bought an '84 KC 4x4 new from Brasso here in Calgary, I learned to drive stick on that truck. He traded it in on a minivan in the ealry 90's when it had around 324000km's on the odo and still ran like a champ.

Yes....that canopy sucks. Probably just clean it up and 'paint' it for now.
It's the only one I have that fits a long box.
I do have other....nicer ones....but they are all for short boxes/KCs.
I would remove it.....but my dogs like to travel out of the elements

My winter 4x4 just won't die....has about 4600000 km on it and the engine has never been 'touched'.
And I think I only changed the oil and filter twice in the last 200000! But I do add a liter every 3000k
Was pulled out of my first 720.....now I might have to 'find' another body for it. Rust and all...
Still runs pretty good.....with a steady 50lb of oil pressure
Here's another project I'm working on....has a 3" lift. Did have a odd fire V6 in it...but......pulled that.
Beefed up the rad support and repaired a little rust in the floors
