If it goes away in 4th, it's very likely a bearing problem. Datzenmike has some great posts on this very same diagnosis, but I don't have a link handy. Search some combination of his name and "bearing" maybe?
indy510 wrote:Will it ever feel stable or safe driving without a front sway bar???
Sure. You'll want to restrain your driving style, but the car's not going to flip over just because you don't have a front bar. Just imagine how little a stock 510 front bar works after 30 years have eaten at the stock rubber bushings. We've all seen cars like this. Again, be careful, but don't worry.
indy510 wrote:Bad starter??? corroded connections???
Possible, and I'd start with the connectors all the way to the ground and to the battery first.. You're taking on the PO's repairs and maintenance, or lack of them. Check this out for a starter rebuild:

indy510 wrote:Is this motor swap illegal in CA??? no cat, no O2 sensor, no smog stuff,, ,, but it is a 1975
That swap as-is is not legal. It could be made legal (see NorCalDime's old thread when he had to give up his car 'cause he didn't want to do the work to make it legal). 1975 means you don't have to get it smogged, but like all USDM 510s in California, you're still required to maintain all smog equipment. Said equipment changes for the KA.

It can only be loud because of the exhaust. 2.25" is, IMO, all you need for a lively KA with low noise. Stick a resonator and a good muffler out back, and you shouldn't have any issues. Also don't attract attention to yourself on the street, and even a loud car shouldn't bring the cops.
indy510 wrote:would you sell the wagon?
The wagon, IMO, is pimp, especially with the Panasports. And it runs. What’s left to make it reliable and a DD? Whether you should sell one of your projects given your living situation is something only you can decide.
indy510 wrote:I really need a DAILY DRIVER, and I know the 510 is never going to be that, or sell-able, I love my 510, and the 710 wagon has been a headache, and is taking all my time away from the 510
But is your 510 ever going to run? If you’re never going to sell the 510 (whether because it isn’t sell-able or you don’t want to sell it), then the decision is already made.

I'd buy that wagon in a heartbeat. That thing is pimp.
I love the 710 wagons. My bro has one....not nearly as nice as yours.
Sell it to me cheap

in 4th gear (at speed) does the noise return if you press the clutch in?
sounds like a TO bearing issue...
change the fluid too.

clean the starter connections and grounds (just like a 510)

the swap is 'legal' ...but until it has ALL the smog equip required (factory installed) for the year that the motor is, your gambling if the cop that gets you to pop the hood(norcaldime) AND knows what is supposed to be in there.

indy510 wrote:... and lived with your parents, and had two cars that are NOT reliable or safe, would you sell the wagon?
move! & buy yourself a house ;)

get the 710 reliable FIRST. DD prob solved! focus
& stop choppin on the dime :P

There is no but. The swap is illegal until it conforms, preferably with a CARB exemption already in place for that particular setup, which is the only way you're going to avoid hassles. Otherwise a cop can and will send you to the BAR Ref.

Oh.... ... where's the tansmission crossmember????

Do I really need one?????

ended up cutting the header.... .. and adding two 1.5" extensions:

OBX claims it is silver ceramic coating.... .... but the extensions are painted with high heat silver Krylon..... (and it matches perfectly.... )
