Just to show off my joy and pride : 140Y GX more commonly known as the Sunny Excellent

This is one of the few GX's imported to Portugal from South Africa and which was given to me on my birthday a couple of years ago by a good friend of mine ...

This car stood for about 12 years and has only 43000 kms !!!

These pics are from the day I picked it up ...

First of all a set of keys had to be made ... the original keys disappeared!

Despite the appearance, the motor started and ran smoothly after finally pulling the petrol thru and into the carbs ... after a while I noticed that it was losing water, so the thermostat housing was replaced.

As expected after standing so long, the brakes were all shot, including the master brake pump ... nothing like a repair kit from the USA to solve!!

But what really made me smile was this sticker ...

Last weekend I stripped it down ready to go for panelbeating and a new spray job ...

In the meantime I am also working on the wheels ... sand-blasted first after which I will polish up the rims

I am looking for a set of these JDM mirrors as I believe they were standard fitting in Japan ... does anyone know of any?

I spent each night of the week polishing my wheels and this is the result : not too bad for a hand job and very old school ...

This is the final result of the wheels and tyres ...

Just thought I would zinc-plate the nuts and bolts which were lying around ...

Then it's time to start putting the pieces back together again ...

Great looking car, interior looks luxurious.
What size is the engine?

Mine uses the L14, hence the "140Y"

There was also the "160Y" which had the SSS engine and a South African derivation "160Z" ... which was basically the same car with a few extras: black bumpers, alloy wheels, fancy interiors, etc.

If we got those front and rear trims (grills, taillights) in the US on our 210s, they might have been slightly more popular then, and definitely more popular now. Good lookin' car...but, do all Datsun owners in Portugal have their own zinc-plating equipment? :)

Not at all ... although everyone likes the result, only the true enthusiasts go to the trouble of zinc-plating.
I am fortunate enough to have a guy just down the road who does it for me ...

WOW its in such nice condition! That tail light panel is so crazy looking. I love it!!

I used to have a set of those wheels on my green 510 wagon. I cleaned mine with wheel acid.

As Okay first stated, these cars look so much better with the non US bumpers that we even got here in Canada - so much smoother.
The fast backs were also very good looking with a slight lowing job, and a front spoiler/lip.
Great car, it would seem you have a very nice collection of Datsun iron :D

As was noted by Okayfine, you Portuguese folks really know how to treat a car to a great restoration. Bravo!

(Estou com preguiça de trabalhar tão duro como você!)

I guess I am shamed into plating that bucket full of parts from my car, no excuses they are already in a bucket!

It may be little tougher to find a plater for that cadmium gold colored stuff, highly regulated.
