Datsun Roadster SP311 tranny part no.

Post by Datsun 1600 Nut »

Hi there

I would like to find out if anyone could help me with the part numbers for the Datsun roadster transmissions?

I believe I might have two brand new boxes, just not sure what car they are from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Jared

Hi Mike,

I have the following 2 photos of the boxes:
4 speed gearbox 1.jpg
4 speed gearbox 1.jpg (203.5 KiB) Viewed 4416 times
4 speed gearbox 2.jpg
4 speed gearbox 2.jpg (201 KiB) Viewed 4416 times
The numbers on the second photo are as follows: A801X / 32010 - 80100 - 9

Both boxes are 4 speeds and have never been used.

Regards
Jared

Well, here in N Am these two in your pictures were used in the 520 truck through '65 with the J13 engine. It was a 4 speed top loader. Here's a picture I have of one...

Image

Our Roadsters came with a 1.6 and 2.0 liter engine and both had the starters on the left side. The shifters were of the A type and the 2.0 liter was only a 5 speed I believe.

Roadster 1.6 liter 4 speed... (bottom one)

Roadster 2.0 liter 5 speed...

Sorry Jared, have to say they are 520 truck 4 speeds.

Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for your assistance. I greatly appreciate it! 8)

Any idea on what these boxes would be worth?

I have done some looking and the Earlier Roadster (pre '65) did use the E series motor which (I believe) eventually, 'became' the J series used in the 520/521 truck. As to the Roadster, '65 saw the introduction of the G followed by the R series in '67... so perhaps your 4 speeds were used on earlier '60s Roadsters. This would not be the only time that Nissan used a truck transmission on a car.

What knowledge I have on Roadster transmissions is very scanty and then only the late '60s and as it was modified for use in the S30. Perhaps it would be best to find someone with detailed info on early to mid '60s Fairladys. If they were used on earlier roadsters they would be worth much more than as a mere truck transmission.
