my 64 VW Ghia

Post by dcuplover »

just picked this one up. It made close to 525HP at the wheels. The engine builders are the fastest VW guys in the world. They have a dragster that runs deep into the 6's in the quarter!! They say this should run in the 9's (so far the builder has done a low 10.3's at over 130 mph). The car is 2.75" off the ground at the rockers and sits lower then my buddies Lambo. I hope to have it out in the summer in town and at the strip if I don't have the second car there.

Here's my drag car. 65 Beetle 2442 turbo full tube chassis. I have a 2850 that I am slowly building. I am going to run it on methanol, high boost and mechanical injection. It is capable of close to 1300HP but I want it to be around the 800-850 range then it will survive (somewhat). I took this car out once at the last test and tune to just "give it a try". Not too bad 10.30 at 142mph with low boost and no tune up. the car is capable of a high 8 sec pass around 150mph.

here is my new turbo for the 2850 methanol motor. It is one of the new 6765 Billet triple ceramic bearing turbos.

Hopefully (and that is a big hopefull) this is what the engine should be like when done. This one is EFI so there will be some slight differences.

The fastest guys in the class I run have broken into the 7 sec bracket so I will be no competition to them (unless my lottery ticket pays off then watch out).

Wow, I love Ghia's and yours is low, beautiful and Nasty! The colour is great, the interior fabric on the seats and door panels is so unique. How does this thing not have a roll cage and racing seats?! I couldn't imagine ripping off a 10 second run with a lap belt on, I'd be scared shitless lol. Judging from your beetle I guess you're used to it.

I thought I would stir it up a bit since it didn't seem anyone was posting. Yes Byron I have a child (4yrs old and learning to drive my truck) that will hopefully turn into a crew member soon. I will get some more pictures of the motor for you. As for cornering it is fine...when the front wheels are on the ground! The car was a street driven hot rod in Colorado (and soon to be Vancouver if all goes well).
