I'm thinking that too. Everyone I speak to say metallic, but the more old school pics I look at the more I think the non metallics suit the old cars
Finally got a chance to shoot some colour over the weekend, I decided to use acrylic since its a bit more novice friendly. Looks like its coming up pretty good. Here's a pic of the engine bay cleared still straight of the gun. Hopefully I'll cut it back during the week.

I think I'm finished with paint on the body, I ended up doing 4 coats of colour, rubbed the orange peel out with 600 dusted another coat on then 4 coats of clear rubbed back with 600 then another 2 coats then sanded with 1000 1500 then 2000. I used farecla g3 compound. Reflection doesn't look to bad except for my messy garage. There is a few scratches I can still see so I need to do more with the 1500.

Thanks Joel, I've still got more clear to shoot but I'm having trouble finding a window of opportunity, so I started a bit of reassembly on the body, progress is so slow but here's some pics anyway

Ok I've got one side sort of looking like a car. I set the door gaps and drilled holes in the latch before i painted to make them easier to fit. Are all panel gaps and alignment on datsuns shit? Feels like I spent ages to get them just ok.

That's looking really nice! I love the 110's. Panel gaps on any older cars are terrible, this is why the big boys like coddington and foose add filler metal to lessen the gap. Most of them weld on small round stock to the door egdes then shape to fit which reduces the gap and gives it a clean close gap.
Thanks rich, those guys must spent big hours on gaps and alignment. I had to add some metal like you said to the lower drivers door just to get the gap the same as the rest, but I can't image trying to get the whole car perfect.
