73 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe

So for as many years as I can remember my Dad would always talk about the Fiats he has owned when he was younger. He had a few pictures of them in the back ground but nothing that I could really see. He would always talk about how when his younger brother had the 510's he would have these 124's, and as he would say " I would wax my brother in his 510". Well ever since I had my 510 and we have been doing all the work to it he has always wanted to get a fiat. Well the day has come.

The car stock in 68 has all four disc brakes and a DOHC 1600 engine. Pretty advanced for its time. Im sure some of the older members here remember the car but they are super rare even in comparisson to the 510.

Wow, that looks like fun. That's definitely a great find. As far as alleged 510 beatings your dad was handing out... it's all relative. A girlfriend I had in high school drove a 70's era 124 Spyder, and from what I remember, that thing ran the 1/4 in the 18-19 second range with a 10-11 second 0-60. So I'm guessing a stock Coupe is probably in the same ballpark.

Noice! I don't recall seeing one of those before. My uncle had a Spyder, handled great, but was about as slow as McW recalls.

Haha yeah Im sure they are not the fastest. But my did do a swap from another Fiat ( Super Brava ). I guess that was a 2.0 DOHC. Then eventually he put a turbo on it. Im sure thats why it was faster

My dad purchased it in southern California about 30 min from Disneyland. Not sure exact city but close to there he said. I guess the owner purchased it from the Bay Area but does not know where it was from before then. It does have its fair amount of rust so I assume from somewhere north.

Those are beautiful cars, I remember those from when I was shopping for my first 510, wow, 36 years ago! I think one of the Realm members has a restored one that cruised with us a couple of years back too!

You got that not to far from me, I'm 10 minutes away from Disneyland.
I used to have a '70 Fiat 850 convertible which had a '65 843 cc motor in it. Rear engine/transaxle car. I regret ever letting my brother sell it. Motor to motor, it would hang with my friends' Ford Courier which had an 1800 cc motor with a mild cam, header, & 32/36 Weber DGV (Oh did that make him mad as H3LL ). And it got 36 mpg.

Fiat made some cool machinery.
The 131 Super Brava was one of my favorites of the era, I loved the squared off flares.

The Fiat DOHC engines are great, the British guys swap those into a lot of stuff. High revving with a bucket/shim valve train design. Also look at all those gauges. An Italian friend of mine had a blue one of those with the factory Libre style wheels, says he wished he hadn't sold it.

I dont think its a swapped motor. It has the original 1600 badge on the back....although that can be swapped too.

My dad took off the huge front bumper and did a test buff. The paint really pops, we will work on this all weekend.

Those wheels sure look like my wifes old BMW 320i stock wheels or a very close copy.
