So I guess it's time to update this thread....I have been working on this project on and off.....I need to get it done so I can drive it while I swap my truck motor.
Today I cut out two coils from the front springs, so just like the title reads, going ghetto fabulous on this one!! but I did order some new shocks for the front and rear today.....right now there are no shocks on the front, I just left them off when I put the ball joint back on from cutting the springs....I love that plasma cutter, just whacked them right off while they were still stuck in the car. Then had to cut the coils into pieces to get them out, it was tricky but got it done. I'll get some blocks for the rear.....maybe tomorrow.

Rich,

Is that a W58 5-speed I see in the posts? If so thats a great box. We use them in the Triumph TR2-3-4, and 6 conversions that we do. Very strong and will take the HP you give it. I think the later Supra versions are even stronger. We buy our kits from a fellow who runs HVDA. He supplies us with a cast bell housing, clutch disc, mounts, speedo cable,etc....and whats really nice ...a hydraulic throughout bearing. It really makes the pedal effort much easier on the quad muscle. If your interested I can check the manufacturer.

Great project by the way!

today I picked up the new rear shocks, then later my friend picked up my front shocks and by the time they were here I was ready to put them on, I got some generic lowering blocks and re-bent the u-bolts. Had to drill the lower plates for the bigger U-bolts too, but it wasn't too bad. It rides nice up the road and back, I need to insure it before I hear out to road check it. Registration when nice and easy, collector status on the old green wa state plate.

Hey Rich, that's going to be a sweet ride when your all done. When I was a teenager one of my aunts had a pastel green one just like that. Keep up the cool projects. Ron.

Drove it to the gas station today, I still have some wiring issues to fix in the chassis harness, low beams don't work and the blinks need a new flasher. want to hook up the speedo cable too but it's too short.

Rich,
Did you see the '68 2 door Corona on BAT/Craigslist? $4800 in San Jacinto, CA.

How did you modify those U-bolts to fit a smaller axle than they were designed to fit? ... ... heat and a 2.5" tube?

I have longer U-bolts for a 3" axle, but the 710 is a 2.5" axle, and I can't find 2.5" U-bolts anywhere

Yes, I saw that 2 door on CL, it's nice for sure......I like it but can't spend that kind of money!!

Indy, good to see you here again, I just heated the spot I wanted it to bend in and worked them till they kinda matched the original U bolt. I was amazed at how they managed to maintain a round bend. There was a lot of hammering on the anvil to get them done, but it wasn't that hard. They were not perfectly curved round when I took them out of the box from the auto parts store. So I wouldn't worry about getting them perfectly bent to the shape of the axle housing.
