I am thinking about going down a looking at this as a possible farm truck (doing deliveries 160 mile round trip every week during summer). Seller says it's been put back together though I am awaiting pics.
Anything specific to these I should be looking out for mechanically?

with any box frame truck inspect the area before the rear kick for rot and rust jacking, datsuns are better than toyota as they added drain holes on the underside of the frame

Re: '82 720 Dually
My dad had one of those with a built in camper on the back, that truck was bullet proof.
As Robyn said, just check for rust.
Only place my dad's suffered was in the doors, due to the moisture being held in by the very rust proofing, ZIEBART, that was supposed to stop it.
The truck was given to my Aunt in Winnipeg when my Dad passed away a few years ago, and it is STILL going for summer camping. They did end up changing the doors out.

All that uncoating over the suspension .... blah! I had one of these trucks but it was an '80 with the 2L. Good little truck but the box was rusty at the seams. Cool that its a dually. Those tubes that run between the exhaust and the intake manifold can be problematic - leaky, rusty, seized.... People usually just pinch them off. No one will buy it cuz it's not together - cut his price in half. Ha!

More good info, thanks. It's all together and running, lights and all. I was going to offer sub 1K. I want to see the aluminum flat bed he has for it for $300 because that's what I was going to make.

Re: '82 720 Dually
Check the engine tag below the pass side hood hinge on the inner fender. The car number should start with E M L 720 XXXX if it early '82 with a Z22 engine, and E N L 720XXXX if later Z24. The E designates the Cab/Chassis option that comes from the factory without a box and may have optional dual tires and special axle at the back. If no E on the tag, it's just a truck with dual tires. Gears are 4.374 only, and this will be noted on the engine tag also as HF43 on the lower right. The Z22 engine only came with a 4 speed, the Z24s had 5 speeds. There were no Cab/Chassis automatics or diesel engines. All Cab/Chassis were short wheelbase trucks.

So did you get down to look at the truck yet?
I had a little dually 620 for a while when I was younger, build this one before the mini truck craze took off in the late 80's. It's one of those vehicles you think you should have kept, just because it was unique.
These are the few photo I have of it - the era before digital when we spared the photos we took!

I haven't been able to get down there to check it out, that's a pretty hip ride Byron. Reminds me of the truck "Lil' Hustler" had on the old NWDE forum (maybe a 620?).
