Starting the b310 rebuild.. 200HP! VG30!!

Post by Zippy210 »

well my 1982 210 is off the road

soon to receive a vg30, its a 3 liter truck block, going with a 4 barrel manifold and carb.. should rip it up....

the motor is the same as the 300zx, so any of there 5 speeds bolt up, custom crossmember, headers with dual exhaust...( headers ordered)...

custom motor mounts, full interior cage, beefed subframes/body.

trying to spend around 2500 and have everything ready for spring

should be a fun car, im looking into a cam for the motor as well, cause i was told it can handle 300hp and 350 footpounds no problem..

anyone care for progress pics?

pics would be cool, why not do efi route?
It's just as easy if not easier than trying to get it running as a carbed motor, plus emissions and drivability would be better.
250hp is a pretty optimistic goal....I'd say 200hp will be more attainable.

are you saying cabr or efi is better

i would go efi but the truck im getting it from isint complete, all im getting is the wiring harness, no idea where it goes..

picking it up for 100 bucks. good source just wants it gone, it will need a full tear down, cleaning and ninspection, this could take awhile but it will be worth it...

You'll ve looking at 5 figures to make a 300HP NA SOHC VG. I think you'll find the limits of your car well before that mark. What are your plans for suspension and brakes?

well i just hope the motor works out, or i sell the heaers i paid nothing for on ebay and forget about it all.. and find somethign else.. just ideas for now, what you all think..

brakes will be 240sx.. coil overs. new controla rms front rear, with a narrowed 2wd toyota diff or a 4x4 samurai diff, but i would need custom axles/ not a problem. just might delay a bit

where did you pull 300hp from?

it will be cammed, head ported/polished, big valves. shaved. and hopefully a tbi intake machined into a 2 barrel holley.. not a 4 as i said above.

its 190hp and 165 factory.. so i figure 230 and 190 footpounds

I realise your not saying you're shooting for 300HP, it's just capable. But that is where Derek got it from. It doesn't help when your post title did say 250HP, and has now been edited to 200...

Good luck on the project, and I'd be happy with any additional horsepower you get.

I would say that ~200 hp sounds right. I know Tom Dockerty made 297hp with a FULLY build VG33. I'm talking fully build, almost race engine. I here its in the process of a rebuild and that he might dry sump the new one, which is a sign that no stone has gone unturned in the motor.

Efi is the way to go, you will need to find a new distributor (saudi distributor if i remember correctly) in order to have ignition...the harness you will get has an ecu that runs the throttle body injector, so simply carbing the motor isn't that easy.
The tbi pathfinder motor was only 135hp or thereabouts...the stock 300zx single cam is 160hp stock....not 190hp.
Either way it will be a huge increase/improvement.
You will probabaly see around 200ish hp maybe 225hp.
Mine dynoed 190.9hp to the wheels with minimal mods so maye 300hp is possible but don't hold your breath.
Good luck.....look into maybe 280zx struts or something like that, I don't know what works on the 210's.

Well define fully race prepped, they screwed that motor up so many times because of poor building techniques.
They couldn't put a pre-built pan and pick-up tube on it right, the "well known shop" from what I've heard, has lost alot of it's employees to the opening of their own shops and what not and was jamming shit together to keep up with demand, at the expense of quality.
Last I heard the motor is done, too many times hitting zero oil pressure has left the engine an expensive paper weight.
Oh and the cost was around in and around $15,000us.
But at least it put down good numbers on the dyno.
But yeah 300hp is no problem for the VG30 to handle.

I think you can buy the saudi dist from nismo through southside nissan still.
Look into that first as this will make or break your conversion.
I'm not sure what you would moidify to the existing distributor that would make it useable, you could try to contact Dave Carrol ( vg30.com ) through Carter Boad CarterB@Electroimpact.com.
Carter is the only way to contact Dave Carrol, and he would know the true answer to this question....you will also require and adpater plate to mount a regular carburator on that plenum, so as you can see it is easier to do the efi version.
Good luck in your hunt.
