Would that be a Z20S or maybe a Z22S motor? I have the truck manual for the Z20 and Z22 carbs.. if it's a simple question I may be able to look it up for you.

Update

Post by mattc » 06 May 2007 09:52

well, weather is better and the datsun is just about ready for the track

since last post i have:
finished the trunk
relocated the battery
installed new 3" 1/2x20 wheel studs
made bracket and intalled the fuel pump and filter
got the motor back together and degreed the cam in
changed the center section axle seals
got the new tires
modified the oil pan
fabbed a new oil cooler mount
made and installed headlight blocking plates
painted front flat black

finished trunk - note all panels were fitted first, then removed and framework was painted. All panels were sealed with silicone then riveted in place.
DSC00310.JPG
the fuel pump and filter - note NAS spec 1/4 x 28 bolts and silver plated steel lock nuts on cell and 1/4x 28 gr5 bolts and nuts on pump mount
DSC00312.JPG
rear wheel stud detail with 1/2" spacer - previous ownner was racing with incorrect lug nuts and only 2 threads of engagement - deadly.

degree in your cam

Post by mattc » 06 May 2007 10:02

it's been said many times but i have to say it again, if you don't degree in you cam you are asking for trouble.

when i installed my Colt Cam C.543 'striaght up', it was advanced 6.5 degrees! when i went to retard it using the positions on the factory cam wheel, it went forward another 6 degrees!! unreal. i put on another chain wheel from an L16 i had and P2 yielded the same, 6 degrees up, when i put it to P1 it went to 1/2 degree retarded. this is where it is now. but had i just put it in, the car would not have ran very well.

lots of thanks to Andy and Tracy at Specialty.

almost running

Post by mattc » 21 May 2007 10:44

the motor is in, everything is ready to go, the rad doesn't fit. I call the guy i got the car from for the first time since i got it and asked him if he gave me the correct radiator, because the lower rad hose outlet hits the alternator on the one i have. turn out he never ran an alternator. oh well, there goes more money i didn't have.
