On the weekend that some of us did the Classic car drive, I ran into an old friend who used to race a 240Z, back in the 70's with me. She also used to be one of the original "CannonBallers", that used to do the out of town trips with us. We of course got to talking about the "good old days" both at Boundry Bay, and some of the crazy club stuff we used to do. This of course brought up the club car craziness we did, and how we were lucky we did not kill ourselves.
At the time, we had the use of our old road race track, WESTWOOD, where we could do whatever we wanted to do. The first Mr.Guts was born..or flogged as the case would be. The first car survived 3 hours..the second car did the mud bog thing, then went ice dicing, then got killed back at Westwood. We had an old Buick station wagon...that only managed to do one leap at Westwood, and the subsequent landing blew the motor right off it's mounts.

The picture of the Gordini, is now owned by our new Realm member, who came on the OCTOBERFAST drive..in his Gordini. This picture is about 1977, at the old Boundry Bay solo area. He was one of the hot shoes that was in my gunsites for awhile, as I was sorting out my 1972 Turbo'd 510.

That day I also experiended a stupidly fast hillclimb snow mobile, where I hit 100 MPH on the ice.

That is an old Vauxhal Victor. We used to scour the Buy & Sell for the el'cheapo cars, usually under 100.00, or FREE!

That Toyota in Mr.Guts 1 had the motor seize three times, we let it cool down...whammo...away it went again...it got rolled twice...and all the time that motor was just screaming. Finally it just plain stopped, I don't think there was any compression left.

here is another picture...Wanda and I went to a GIANT slalom at the University in Lethbridge one summer. It had a huge dip in the pavement, were we got slighly airborne! Can you imagine that being allowed today...HAH! I had to straighten my car out, just before I hit it, so that the silly rea suspension did not pitch me off the road. This was LONG before we got the rear toe sorted out.

here's another one from up at westwood, we clocked a big stump with the thing, crowbarred it out, and away we went...toe was a bit out..but hey!

here is a series of pictures, as to the roots of my car. After my crash, in 1978, that wrote my 1972 off, I bought a 1973 from the volkswagon dealer in North Vancouver, it had just been traded in by the original owner. I started work on it, it my back yard, then, it went to Specialty Engineering, where Andy looked at it and said, " It will take so much body work, to fill all the little door dings, why don't we just put new quarters on?!" They were so cheap then....so we did. Then, in 1983, I went off the Westwood track at very high speed, with the car luckily surviving. That prompted me to get serious about the suspension, so the flares happened, and all sorts of other things.

love seeing all the old pics, I wish we still had Westwood, I started going up and watching some races just as it was coming to an end. I was around 20 when it closed, and had no money to put into a racecar. now we only have Mission, better than nothing I guess.

Yes, that would be it.

This is Andy changing the jets, and you can see how fresh the paint still is on it. I noticed that that is the big oil cooler that I inherited, which is on my car now.

I love looking at old pictures like these. The old cars, old places, things in the background along with everyone with their long hair, Adidas shorts, C Fox T shirts................
I noticed that you put hood hinges back into your car since then. My old car had the same setup and it was sometimes a pain in the ass finding a safe spot to put the hood down.
Can we see some more please...
