OK, someone wanted real hockey banter…

This is the first time that I have thought about this, but it is very possible to not have a single Canadian Franchise in the Stanley Cup Playoffs! :shock:

I'd never thought about this before, but you know, Vancouver and Montreal were the only two Canadian franchises to make the playoffs this year. To me it seems completely unreal for the Stanley Cup playoffs - a Canadian Tradition for nearly 100 years, to not actually include a single Canadian team :!:

I never did mind the expansion south - until this year, even teams like the Blackhawks were more than 50% Canadian players, but think about this for a second and put this into context. This would be like, well;
-the NFL not including a single US team in a play off season, never mind who reached the Super Bowl
-the NBA not including a single US team in a play off season.
-the MLB not including a single US team in a play off season.
-the Daytona 500 not having a single US driver in the entire grid, much less finish the race! Imagine what that would do to the sport.

Yep, it would be very odd for us Canucks to not be involved in any way in a Stanley Cup playoff season, let's hope we never see the day. Of all the official games, hockey is the sport most Canadians relate to, and we all feel it when all of our teams are out. I think it's been since 1993 when any Canadian franchise won the cup (thanks Montreal). There have been four Canadian teams to get to the final round since then, but no takers - this hurts us Canucks enough already. Vancouver has a chance this year, first in the league entering the playoffs. But we seemingly had a hard time knocking off the Blackhawks earlier this week, and barely stood against Nashville (who themselves must have played their worst game of the season last night). I know this is a car site, not a sports site. I've never been a team hockey player, but I grew up with skates on my feet, shoveled off my own rink on the lake behind the house as a kid, then later on the prairies, ever single neighborhood had a rink, and we skated until we near froze to death. It was many times when I skated until the point where I couldn't undo my laces on the skates. So even though I never played the sport professionally, it's still the closest non-motorsport to my heart and I take it fairly seriously.
Go Canucks!

Yep, it was an ok game - teams were pretty even tonight. The Nucks were able to capitalize on a few minor errors on Nashville’s part, Nashville had many great chances of their own but didn’t get the same outcome. Both teams played all right, but the Canucks go on to the next round and San Jose in a few days....
