Ravaged Datsun & other bits
Morning World,
That last few weekends have found us blasting out from the Big city, trying to break up the boredom of regular routine. As most West Coasters know, winter has hardly let go this year, and spring is sure taking it’s time.
We went up to my favorite park, Manning, to do a hike around the lake, gambling a bit that the snow conditions would be hard packed enough to be able to walk with just hiking boots. We lucked out, as there is over 5 feet of snow up there this year, but, the freeze thaw conditions, plus the fact that cross country skiers had tracked it out, made the walking doable. Spring will be late this year in the mountains and high alpine areas, with some of my trails likely impassable for the summer. I have thrown a few summer / winter pictures in for comparison. We stayed off the Lake, as I do not trust ice in late winter conditions, even when it appears sound.
This past Easter Friday, we went up to the old train tunnels off the Coquihalla highway. I have often thought this would be a good day 510 Club day trip, with a walk and picnic. They have fenced off the tunnels, but, everyone is going around. Liability issues I guess, but I saw no sign of any rock having come off the ceilings.
After we did this walk, we headed off to see if we could find the old Caroline Gold mine. We headed up the appropriate road, but, ran into deep snow, so we had to turn around. We tried the Tracker in 4 x 4 mode, going through some cross ditches, just see what clearance we had, for future reference.
On the way back, off a side road, I saw the ravaged Datsun, so stopped to take some pictures. It had seen better days for sure

Re: Ravaged Datsun & other bits
My B-day today, and I woke to a perfect blue sky and sun. Just like yesterday. Cool but warming and will be beautiful by noon. Never thought about it as a late spring but you are right. I've seen the salmon berries in bloom in late March and usually by the first weekend in April. They are barely out now. I have a Jack-in-the-Pulpit in a flower pot and it's just poking up through the dirt. Fawn lilies are out in the woods.
Have to put my starter back on the goon and have my work cut out today for other Datsun related stuff.

That snow sure looks nice up there. It can stay up there too! Happy Birthday Mike!

We had a very beautiful 20 deg C (68 Deg F) in New Westminster today most enjoyable, actually.
