You know, the evening news rarely brings us anything we want to hear. But this is all different tonight. As of Jan. 1, all vehicles produced in 2001 or newer will be exempt from the BC Air Care test, extending the exemption to vehicles 7 years old or less. The roles for bi-annual tests for 1992 to 2001 cars and annual test for pre 1991 and older cars is still in place.
But the great news is that the whole system will be phased out by 2011! And no replacement system is in the works due to the fact that all new vehicles come equipped with systems that last the lifetime of the car, and that testing the newer vehicles is getting very difficult with the machinery available for mass testing. I hope this doesn't change, and that we old hot rod types will eventually be free of this Air Care issue.
