Old Langley Speedway

Post by bertvorgon »

I had meant to post these up when I took them, then my computer died.

This track is not far from my house, now at the edge of Campbell River park, where we walk. We hiked up there this past August, and lo and behold, here it is. The pavement is in great shape! My son has been using it on his cycle cross bike for interval training with his friends.

The hillside where the bleachers were has completely grown over, as has most of the side access roads to it. It pretty much sits in the middle of a forest now. It was shut down as the NIMBY farmers around did not like the noise.

You can go to the Langley SpeedWay website, and see some old photos. A group wants to kinda resurect it for cars shows, etc, which I think would be very cool.

If any one wanted to go for a walk some nice day, glad to show anyone. It is pretty cool to think this was runningand had some pretty big races there.

Geez, what a waste, one of my friends used to run open comp over there in the late seventies early eighties.Or so.I've never been to that track, been to most of them in B.C.may have to look at it one day.Reminds me a bit of Grandview Bowl in Nanamio.I like the bit about the 510 blowing off the camaro,we took one of my 510's to a Run What You Brung race at Grandview, started dead last, the officials didn't want us to get hurt,25 cars,50 laps, finished second. That turned a few heads.DAN

Went for a cold walk yesterday, try to walk off some turkey and hours of video gaming. We went over to Campbell Valley park, then decided to walk back over to the old speedway. As you can see in the new pictures, they have been working on the track, puttting in some steel catch fencing, and new posts on the back side. I suspect they are wanting to refurbish it back to a what it was, sort of a living museum?! I am going to check out their website, and see what their plan is. Would be a cool place to have a car show.

I've actually been to a car show there a few years back; I believe it's an annual event for a Fraser Valley hot rod club...
