Scotty's 13bpp '71
Hey everyone.
Purchased this car back in Dec. 07, from California, had it shipped here to Chicago where I presently dwell.
Nothing really special about the car that you haven't seen already besides the fact that it's mine
Plans:
To have a car that is fast, handles, brakes better on the track than my previous car, 99 BMW Mcoupe set up for track duty, pretty serious car by the way. Sold that to fund my dream car, Datsun 510. I've loved these cars since I was building scale models as a youngster some 20yrs ago.
Motor: 13b Peripheral Port N/A.
Trans: Jerico 4spd
Suspension: Custom front and rear double wishbone
Brakes: Willwood's all around, tilton pedal box.
Safety: tube chassis
Body: Stock lines.
The car is in really good shape as far as I can tell, I should get it back from the blaster this weekend and start some of the metal work.
Thanks for looking, Scott.
Leaving Cali.....
in my garage on a chassis stand I built, totally gutted now.....
starting to clean up the bay, wires, tabs, etc....

Re: scotties "project 71"
Hey, nice solid car to start with! Heck, our cars might have been hauled from Cali about the same time!! Mine came out of Pasadena area just before Christmas........hauled by a car hauler out of Chicago, no less!! We will need to get some "regional guys" together in Spring '09, cuz there are more & more cars showing up, maybe a track day at Gingerman, here in South Haven Michigan..........????
When I did a resto on a classic Mini some years ago, I started on a "recondition" on a '72 Suzuki MT50 TrailHopper minibike (just like a Honda 50). I painted the Mini British Racing Green with an Olde English white roof and wheels, so that's how I painted the minibike! Unfortunately, I never quite finished the minibike, as parts were impossible to find........but you can buy almost anything for the Honda 50's!!! Ahhhh, the memories of those solid suspension minibikes like yours, when I was a kid..........

Nice bling. What aren't you sure about the T/C rods? My only complaint is for the $$$ they cost I would have expected class 10.9/grade 8 hardware, but I guess that's too much to ask for a measly $200

Seems kinda odd to weld the threaded stud that way, I'm sure it's fine, it's just me over analyzing everythingthisismatt wrote:Nice bling. What aren't you sure about the T/C rods? Wow!! This is going to be a SUPER nice project. I am really liking the color on that 510. There must be about 4-5 grand in parts in post #6, huh?

Re: Scotties "project 71"
Well the color is gone, the stripper took care of that. It's still a toss up with the color I want, but whatever it is it's gonna be a satin finish, I'm not gonna pay for a super sweet paint job just to ruin it on the track. I just want a really really straight body.heirfaus wrote:Wow!! This is going to be a SUPER nice project. I am really liking the color on that 510. Yeah, parts sure do ad up, a grand here a grand there, I swear everything is a grand these days.

Re: Scotties "project 71"
WOW! it's been a while.
Finally got the car back from the blaster and I have
to say I'm very impressed with the shell of this car.
The usual places of rust, DS floor, behind DS, and
a little bit of cheese holes behind the PS seat. that's it
nothing else!
Very, very solid car. Yippee!!
6pt cage starts in a few days! Pics to follow.
