Server Switch, most likely this weekend

Post by 5teN »

Hey Guys,

Expect some downtime this weekend as the I move to a new webhost. What I will do is disable the board for about 3 hours while I create a backup/snapshot of the website. I will then re-enable the board, but we will lose any posts between when the backup was made, and when the new server is becomes active. I think that duration is about 1 day as the new domain settings propagate throughout the internets.

Cheers,
Spencer

It's just a series of tubes, right? 'Cause Costco has tubes that carry money from the registers to the office, and that stuff gets there RIGHT NOW. So, what, downtime of 30 seconds?

Over the years I have thought a lot about the COSTCO vacuum system for the cash....

We need to get the contract for a new COSTCO, as the vacuum installers, then, we build a shunt into the system, that would fire the money over to a building next door, that we have control of......most busy COSTCO's do a million a day.......if anything..there could be a movie contract in this....

Thanks Spencer, I will play Modern Warfare for a day.......

If you're seeing this, you're connected to the new server! Hopefully everything worked out... Please have a look around and report any funky behaviour! Links, broken images, etc would be most common.

Thanks!

Thanks for the encouragment guys!

Mr Vorgon, I'm using www.canadianwebhosting.com now. They have an office in Richmond, which is nice, because if they treat me like my last host I can go talk to someone in person! They have been very professional and helpful so far!

You can treat them to "The Five Ten Fingers of Death" taking on the evil warlords of web hosting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm-TgM0fAt4

Nearly half the time I visit, it says 'closed switching server' I come back and have to log in even though I checked the remember me box.

So is the change over now complete?

Sounds like you need to clear your cache or dump IE, or both :P
