Yeah, I think Banzai510 is right, we are talking Hitachi/SUs here probably.
Could you take some pictures, and reading http://www.jetlink.net/~okayfine/sutech.html
about these carbs on the web so, you can reference the parts, would be helpful.
Take your time, you can't learn it all at once.

We all really do appreciate your enthusiasm, but you need to help us help you by answering the questions we ask. It would really help if you got yourself one of the books mentioned previously (some of them may be available at your local public library if funds are low). The site 'two_68_510s' listed also has lots of other good reference material on the 510. Good luck with the research.

Thats great - and a 510 is actually an easy car to really learn something bout how an engine works. Get a cell phone or digital camera or something, because a picture to help you describe what you have will be huge in helping us to help you. Let us know what you find...

wow, I can see what's going on here, he's selectively reading (or not reading at all) the posts on his own thread, then just posting without taking into consideration what everyone here is trying to do, which is help him out. Come on brother, this is a two way street...
....basically, this thread is a failure....everyone that reads it is now dumber than they were before they started following (if they are still following)! I have a set of SU's on a running car, I looked all over them and seen nothing sticking out that can be pushed in, or that could possibly stick out that could need pushing in later?? lol....and wait, we don't even know if he has SU's on his car, he never said that!! We are assuming!! maybe he has a 4bbl Holley?? or a briggs and stratton pull slide chocked carb like my go-cart had back about 25 years ago???

i think everyone needs to slow down a little here and cut the guy some slack.

if you can't help, based on what he gives us, don't need to berate him for it. just don't say anything.

I think we all want to help. The frustrating part is that this is is probably something so simple, but we just don't know. Its hard to imagine not being able to get some type of pic, but that may be the situation. Not trying to berate at all, just wanting to get to some known point to be able to help him fix things....

Yea, I think I jumped a little too soon, but if you were to take out all the guessing and assuming, this thread would only have three or four posts, all that assuming has now made it very difficult for really good help. he's been asked a few times for pics or more info, which he hasn't answered, he posted though, I guess that means he's trying??

The little cylinder inside is what i push in
I have pushed it in 3 times
first it was learning how to drive stick
then longbeach
and last to LA
it seems like it takes miles for it to happen
it makes a clicking sound and then car runs good
I really want to know whats causing it
Anyone have a clue?

There should be a small screw that LOCKS the choke/venturi in place, which is what it sounds like is coming loose. If that is moving forward, it totally screws up the mixture, hence your problem. I will see if I can find a diagram to help you out. Is there a stamping/name on that carb...Weber or Mikuni? I'm sure the side draft guys will post up quickly on this.

http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/v/vspfi ... COE151.pdf

If you look at this diagram...#28 is a locking screw, just on the underside of the carb...maybe that has fallen out, or, just backed off if you are lucky.
