Hey Phil, just got caught up on your build. I've attached a picture of my '69 tail light garnish - the inside-the-trunk view. OE for this year was to use screws from the trunk through the panel into the garnish. No idea what they did for '68.

You can see the two screws below the tail light harness and two screws above (spaced wider). This is mirrored on the other side of the trunk latch.

Thanks guys! Hey Julian thanks for the pictures. Are they machine screws? Seems to shallow compared to the size of the screw kinda like the hood trim. Here's a shot

I've got two ideas those flat c clips or a door lock rod clip that I can screw into.

I've never taken the garnish off, but I'd expect they are machine screws. They probably screw into those flat, doubled-over clips like you find on the early dashes. I'm sure there's a name for those clips, but I don't know it. Might be a plastic piece instead, given the slotted nature of the garnish holes. I haven't seen the back of a garnish, so...:)

Is this what you are referring to Julian?

I have used ones that have a captured locking nut. They work great for attaching things like dash panels or something like the garnish.

Build is looking great Phil. I have serious respect for the amount of time and energy you have put into this car. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Yeah, the common Datsun version of that is what I was thinking of. But, given there's no offset in the tabs on the garnish and there's no gap between my garnish and the tail panel, I'm not sure now.

Here is my two options. I like the plastic one better. Keeps it of the paint.
