Go Kart Night/Club Meeting this Saturday Feb 11- TBC Karting

Post by Byron510 »

Hi all,

Just a reminder for the Lower Mainland BC folks, the 510 Club of BC is holding a Go Kart night this Saturday - we've got the track reserved for 2 sessions - $20 a session. We are not doing teams this year, in hopes of stemming the number of Dale Earnhardt types out there looking gain a position at their lack of grace (Sorry Dale.....RIP).
Meet at 6pm, first session on the track at 6:30 sharp. Don’t be late!

We'll likely hold a impromptu meeting right afterwards - likely will be quick being a winter meeting.

Then maybe go get something to eat!

Byron

You know Jason, I think Matt has now outgrown you in terms of weight. So this key fact being considered in a 10 HP cart - your weight, and lack of wind resistance should make you one of the fastest guys out there tonight!!

I'll be the heavy weight guy, conserving speed as much as possible through every corner because acceleration won't be my strong suit...

It'll be fun tonight - I'm looking forward to it.

I'm also thinking about briinging out Ole Blue today - she needs a stretch

That was fun as usual,,,and I'm actually NOT sore this morning!

Man, did my driving suck last night..it seemed like the cart just wanted to over steer so much, so I tried to compensate by diving too deep into the corners, to make use of that, instead of being smoother.

I started first on the grid, with my son Matt right behind me, then Cam. In the first lap, I felt Matt give me a love tap, and I knew I was going to be toast very quickly. He and Cam got by me in a blink, and just motored on. I tried to make myself as wide as possible, but, scrubbed off too much speed in the corners. The turbo was not working so I just got further behind.

One of the workers, on the second session, got into the cart I had, and was so smooth........basically lapping a second faster than I..oh well, next time.

Matt won and got FTD, with Cam just a micro blink behind, good job! At least I can rest that I have passed on the torch to my son, give you guys a hard time for years to come.

Thanks for organizing that! Nice calendar Richard, a beauty.

Great Vid Spencer,

I waved you by at the 5:20 mark or so, as I was watching you come up from behind pretty quick. Later the times showed you were averaging almost a half second faster per lap. I did stay on your tail for a while - you'd pull ahead in the straits, I'd catch you in the corners. When you came up on the Malconator, and did the pass, you filmed a quick glimpse of me apexing way early (at 7:10) as I dove under Malcolm and followed you through. But once you had clear track, you pulled away.

Great night, Aron thanks to your contact for the track time, it was good fun.

Nest year do we do a 30 minute run? I felt alright as Keith mentioned after a 15 minute session, but a 30 minute I'm not so sure I'd be in as good shape. The new carts out there were quite a bit different that the ones we ran last year, but I think it worked pretty good just the same.

Thanks for the vid Spencer, I'll post the lap times for both run groups shortly.

OK, here are the results. I combined both run groups for the stats below, run group sheet are also posted. It's interesting if you look at average lap times - If this were an enduro situation, things in the top 10 could be very different

2 Cam #4 31.262 33.03

Wow for a smaller guy Keith gets W-I-D-E behind the wheel  I noted the guy who worked there leaned forward the whole race so it would turn in, I eventually just started sliding it into the corners by getting out in the marbles on the way in - fun stuff

awsome night out all, calendars are the usuall perfection Richard.

Also, in Heat 2, there was some mix up with the karts and numbers, and therefore names. I was in #20, which was supposed to be Ray's. He stayed in his previous kart #14, and I never noticed who was in what was supposed to be my #9, or if it even made it out.

Byron, could you post a scan or photo of the result sheets? I never did see one.
