Not as many L16s out there as there used to be, but mainly depends on the area you live in. Probably more common in the Northwest compared to, say, SoCal. They're powerful enough for a 510. Would put out ~70WHP stock, for a car that weighs ~2000lb.
The L is probably easier to work on compared to the flat four. Easier to access for stuff like plugs or valve adjustments. Not as easy to drop the engine, but you almost never have to drop an L unless you're swapping it.
