1968 Cross member using nismo sr20det motor mounts and the head will not clear the hood. I spoke to Dave Patten the other day about the Rally hood mold that has in his fotfab inventory. The front of the hood is altered and raised by 3/4 of an inch in order to fit a L head on a NAPZ block I think he said. He sent me a photo of the mold and it looks good to me. The mold is even orange so how can I go wrong.

I have been looking at a few options. I have spoken to Mazworx and Andreas Miko both are no non sense here's your facts type people and I have to say have been very informative. In fact Mazworx has just released this PDF because they are getting flooded with emails and phone calls because of the success of this swap and kit that they provide.

http://www.mazworx.com/content/instruct ... 20Info.pdf

There is more information on the www.sr20-fourm.com as Boy Blunder has stated so much so that in some cases its over whelming.

I think the worst part of this swap as a whole is the fact that the complete intake system and ecu that I currently have is rendered useless for this application and will need to be replaced and or re fabricated.

That's your issue. Even with a '68 c/m the S13 mounts are taller than the 510 mounts. A 69-73 c/m with 510 mounts clears the hood with the vvl head. Trust me. I'm 100% certain on this :)

I'm running a DATSPORT front crossmember with NISMO mounts. My head did not clear the hood when closed.

That's when I chopped the mount brackets.

I forgot how much I removed ... (It's been well over a year since I did it)

It drops the engine a tad bit deeper, sure your oil pan is lower, but your improving CG.

Well Lee here is the update. The last time the lifter came off I could not find the valve train shim. I pulled the head only to find a slight leak on the # 4 cyl at the rear of the block directly between two water ports. I kept on digging pulled the motor out of the car put it on the stand and found that lost shim had floated around found its way to the top of the rod bolt and impacted itself into the bottom of the # 4 piston and barrel. Needless to say the motor is now stripped waiting for a new oil pump at this point before I can send it off for machining / decking etc. Now that it is apart its hard to say how stupid I am able to go and yet be reasonable about my goals. This year I was planing on putting some miles on the car and finally enjoy it now it seems it has taken residence in the center of the 3 car garage.

Here is the damage one of the rocker arm guides did to the bottom of cylinder # 4 it also broke the skirt of the piston. I have been collecting the parts to rebuild the motor since its been out of the car but got sidetracked 2 weeks ago when I found this I could not pass it up it was to good of a deal.

Cmac,

Very nice build

Wondering if you could provide a little more detail on the Mazda filler neck setup that you used. vehicle model, installation details and needed modification to stock parts. Curious as to the vented cap recommendation as well, my car still has the vent that travels to the drivers side strut tower? uses a non-vent cap.

The main reason I am interested in this mod is I am getting fumes in the cabin after hard left handers with over half a tank. I have inspected all connections and hoses, and taken things apart at least (3) times to try to alleviate this problem. Your filler neck option may solve my problem.

Thanks

Braided fuel lines are known to gas over time the newer kevlar lines are said to be better. it seems to work in my case I am going to re due these lines in 3/8 stainless when I get a chance just to be sure. Theres nothing worse that putting your head inside a nicely built car of any kind and smelling exhaust and or fuel.

Filler neck and rubber are from a Mazda MX6 1986-1997 you will need the rubber hose / tank attachment and gas cap from this car as well. I am running a cap form a Nissan 240sx or is it a 300zx I cant remember that part.
Rubber fuel resistant gasket I had cut 1/4 inch thick used to try to keep fuel and smell out.

This is the rubber filler neck to tank you will get with the MX6 fuel neck

Note the issue I created the return vent as a bend in it creating a trap like you may see in you kitchen sink. not so good.
