I really like those air vents, looks kinda retro, fits with the dash, yet just a touch of modern! Nice choice.

That's a tasty collection of suspension bits! The dash is very cool and the bodywork looks great.
Why the new firewall? The original one didn't look that bad or did you just want to start off with a clean slate?
The factory firewall is a bit "Busy"

I like the attention to all of the details.

there was a fair bit of rust, and i was planning on filling up the old L series holes and had to make new ones for the SR.
Ended up being easier i think

A nice paint job begins with great body work, and man you obviously did your work there. That color depth is beautiful. When light reflects off the paint from different angles, the variation in color depth defines the surface of the body really well. Looks almost hyper three diminutional. Shaving the gutters makes the old 1600 look so much cleaner and more modern. When I read you were doing this at the beginning of your thread I cringed at first, but seeing it, I'm totally sold.

Is that thermal conductive paint on your inter cooler? I used an industrial coating called C-187 Transfer Black on my I/C that's supposed to give it 30% greater cooling efficiency. It also helps the bright aluminum inter cooler disappear behind the grill. Nothing screams TURBO louder than a shiny new intercooler hanging off the front end.

From one SR20 510 guy to another, Good on yah mate.

Did you put in the extra bulkhead behind the back seat?

Nice color

Thanks for the comments guys,
I just painted the cooler with a plain matt black nothing special might look into that spcecial paint tho.
I wanted to hide it, im going to be pulled over by the cops anyway but nothing screems out modified like a big shinny FMIC. I have to go through so much crap to make this legal on the road here.

The bulk head you speak of is actualy the seat back from a S13 silvia, left it in when it went for paint.

colour or color as you all say over there, is a Toyota factory paint from a few years ago

It's amazing that with all the safety crap here in California, when it comes to classic cars they're totally hands off. All I had to do was register my car with some paperwork, and bingo, I got my plates. If my insurance knew what I had under the hood though, they'ed drop me like a hot potato.

Jump through what ever hoops they put in front of you. Trust me, it will be worth it in the end.

we have to fill out this multi page form to the transport department with full list of original specs and then list what we are changing in detail. Have to send the form in to get aproval before you start to work it, then when its all done an engineer (for $500) has to look over it make sure everthing is legal for road use then the transport department inspect it (for a few hundred $). before your good to drive on the road. If your vehicle licence details and insurance details dont match they wont pay up if you claim.

No damage to paint which is good. one snag tho, due to the firewall change the clutch reservoir hits the intake mani :( can be fixed if i attack the manifold with a file and shave off a few bits.

Man that engine compartment is soooo clean. Looks so much nicer without all of the extra mounting holes. I wished now I would 've spent more time cleaning up mine before I had it painted. The polished mounting plate behind the BMC and clutch master is a nice touch. Along with the polished steering box brace. The spacers under the shock towers are als a cool idea
Details, details, details....... All good!

Another cool touch I just noticed. All of the spot welded lapped seams in the engine bay have been smoothed and blended. Like around the shock tower. Keep posting pics. It's fun to look for the subtle details.
