I knew those flares reminded me of something:

I have always loved even stock Giulia flares, but these were especially nice.510rob wrote:what is this "1967_Alfa_Romeo_Giulia_Sprint_GT_Buick_V8" that you picture of?

But I think these Alfrettas are my all time favorite, very smooth transitions:

Re: 1200 within days
I see an Alfa like that one, on the way home from work every day. It sits in the very back corner of a wrecking yard along HWY 99.
An Idea doesn't work unless you do.
Re: 1200 within days
Just read your thread from the beginning Matt. Cool project! I haven't seen a 1200 in the flesh in about 20 years, best as I recall they are even smaller than a 510. Should be like a go kart when it's done.

Re: 1200 within days
Thanks Jim.
I hope it handles like a shifter kart.
The A12 I have in the car now is going to see a rebuild with an EFI adapted, and 14 lbs of forced air.
The Bench A12 is for sure DOHC & bike carbs.
I was shooting for a June debut but I'm starting to shift toward this shop move to my home. All the traveling to make stuff has caused some forgetfulness and errant shipping of parts to people who didn't order parts
Stay tuned and more neat stuff is on the way.
Thanks for the interest.

Re: 1200 within days
I can attest to the fact that a well setup 1200 will corner like a cart.
That is Stevie Bikers 1200 in the back ground, with what was the Nissan Comp suspension, and then modded from there. That thing was like it was on rails at the time, running the Yokohama 001R tires at the time. Low CG and light weight made it very competitive in a variety of applications.
It had an unfortunate end, and I think Specialty still might have some of the parts.

Re: 1200 within days
Im doing my best to get it linked and coiled right in the rear. I have some ZX struts to mod for my front end.bertvorgon wrote:I can attest to the fact that a well setup 1200 will corner like a cart.

My goal is a car that has an attraction to the road
I liked the fact that the track lock rear I bought had the 4 link mounts already. Just have to adjust the outer link mounts and shorten the width.

Re: 1200 within days
Love your build, love the Kermit dude that sang while you lost your nuts
Weight is the killer on that diff though, if you go to racejunk.com you can
get some good deals on second hand quick change rear ends with the easy
option of 2 gear setups for track and road or track and hillclimb or whatever
eg.http://www.racingjunk.com/UMP-IMCA-Modi ... arend.html
I still think you should go the ga16de head as the bores are 76mm stock modern angle
valve geometry, bore spacings are right on so all head bolts line up unlike Mazda head.
Peter Zekert is making good hp from his GA engine last I heard and more to come.
Even the head bolts match up and are done up in the previous shot. The problems (all solveable) are the pushrod holes, coolant galleries and cam drives. Luckily there is only one chain to the head so it looks pretty easy. See more at datrats.com.au
The other bonus is the rocker cover is quite nice and the water inlet is on the head at the front so will make the water
outlet from the original A series block much easier without worrying about running any pipe to the back of the head.
If you decide to go for this head I would buy a kit from you using billet alloy front plate for the head and camshaft pulleys
much like the mini BMW setup which is chain drive converted to belt.

The head bolts are done up in the pic. They all line up! The oil pump is not a problem, or the oil return holes.
The holes in the block can be tapped and fitted with plugs to seal holes.
It will need a cam cover to be fabricated to cover the timing chain.
I intend to try and use the original timing chest and ancilliaries. The combustion chamber will give 9:1 stock.
I will probably use a 1mm 5053 aluminium shim gasket with high temp three bond silicon sealant on O rings for the bores.
The biggest problem is the cam drive and timing cover anciliaries (water pump and oil pump).
The coolant galleries and oil feed to the head look like they can be solved with a bit of work.

Re: 1200 within days
Datso I like your input!
I have been shopping quick changes for a couple months now. That's a sweet deal at 400$.... I will have to recoupe what i have spent recently before I head that direction.
I hadnt even seen or thought of the Nissan head. GA16DE is getting called on today. its a common Sentra head.
Thank you for the resources.

Re: 1200 within days
As you know you will save plenty of money going for the more popular ga16de, sorry I couldnt elaborate further earlier when I suggested it but moved countries and took a long holiday.
The GA16 has plenty of parts and people who have modded it compared to a mazda Z which gets no love.
Little work makes them scream, super reliably and narrow valve head is a nice bit of kit.
http://www.nissanforums.com/naturally-a ... post852054
http://sr20nation.com/ga16forum/showthr ... ther-parts
also the ga16de takes an early sr ecu with re-program or piggy back at worse when you decide to go efi
plus boost but I gather a Megasquirt is much better option from the start with upgrades possible to run
starting from bike carbs with distributor-less ignition to full ignition and fuel.
